We still miss you, Freddie... Mercury passed away at his London home on 24 November 1991, aged 45. He had been diagnosed HIV-positive several years earlier, and died of bronchial pneumonia, brought on by AIDS. Queen’s lead singer is remembered for his captivating live performances, searing vocals and enduring classics such as 'I want to break free', ‘We Are The Champions’, ‘Killer Queen’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.

We have been talking today about the outbreak of the French Revolution. Let's see some scenes of a really good movie about this important event. It is a French movie, I have found some videos in youtube with English subtitles, anyway, you can see it in French, you can understand it or just imagine what they are saying, as we have studied in our course about this period.

A watershed event in modern European history, the French Revolution began in 1789 and ended in the late 1790s with the ascent of Napoleon Bonaparte. During this period, French citizens razed and redesigned their country’s political landscape, uprooting centuries-old institutions such as absolute monarchy and the feudal system. Like the American Revolution before it, the French Revolution was influenced by Enlightenment ideals, particularly the concepts of popular sovereignty and inalienable rights. Although it failed to achieve all of its goals and at times degenerated into a chaotic bloodbath, the movement played a critical role in shaping modern nations by showing the world the power inherent in the will of the people.

What happened if an accused died before the Inquisition trial was finished? 5. Explain two different torture methods used by the Inquisition. 6. El Greco was born in Crete. He became a master in this art form before following in the footsteps of other Greek artists and travelling to Venice to further his studies. Moving on to Rome, El Greco opened a workshop and spent a great deal of time developing his style, adopting elements of both Mannerism and the Venetian Renaissance. However, it was after relocating to Toledo, Spain that El Greco truly blossomed. There he received several major commissions and produced his best known paintings. The artist gained notoriety for his highly expressive and visionary religious works and rarely ventured away from this genre. When he did, however, he created compelling portraits, landscape paintings, mythological works and sculptures. Those produced during his later years are particularly notable for their undulating forms, epic scale and expressive distortions. El Greco regarded color as the most important element of painting, and declared that it had primacy over form. ...

CHAPTER 4. RULING THEIR KINGDOMS Answer the following questions about this chapter: When did Granada surrender (day, month and year)? Which words did Boabdil say just before giving Ferdinand the keys to the Alhambra. Who was the Archbishop of Granada who forced Muslims to convert to Christianity? When? There is a mistake in our book, you can see in the last line on page 40 "The moriscos were finally expelled from Spain by Philip III in 1614". What is wrong in that sentence? Why is a place called "The Moor's Last Sigh" known with such a curious name? Look at this website with the Conquest of Granada: http://lab.rtve.es/serie-isabel/rendicion-de-granada/

When: 8 March. THIS YEAR WITH THE MOTTO “MAKE IT HAPPEN” Where: Everywhere What: International Women's Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women's Day is a national holiday. Why: Suffragettes campaigned for women's right to vote. The word 'Suffragette' is derived from the word "suffrage" meaning the right to vote. The first International Women's Day event was run in 1911. http://www.internationalwomensday.com / Now your turn, try to guess who these personnes were and why they were so important: a) b) c) d) e) f) g) h) i) j) k) l) m) n) o)
