EL GRECO

El Greco was born in Crete. He became a master in this art form before following in the footsteps of other Greek artists and travelling to Venice to further his studies. Moving on to Rome, El Greco opened a workshop and spent a great deal of time developing his style, adopting elements of both Mannerism and the Venetian Renaissance. However, it was after relocating to Toledo, Spain that El Greco truly blossomed. There he received several major commissions and produced his best known paintings. The artist gained notoriety for his highly expressive and visionary religious works and rarely ventured away from this genre. When he did, however, he created compelling portraits,  landscape  paintings, mythological works and sculptures. Those produced during his later years are particularly notable for their undulating forms, epic scale and expressive distortions. RULING THEIR KINGDOMS Answer the following questions about this chapter:  When did Granada surrender (day, month and year)?  Which words did Boabdil say just before giving Ferdinand the keys to the Alhambra. Who was the Archbishop of Granada who forced Muslims to convert to Christianity? When? There is a mistake in our book, you can see in the last line on page 40 "The moriscos were finally expelled from Spain by Philip III in 1614". INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Beyoncé used to sing that one day "Girls will run the world".  On March 8th the International Women's Day is celebrated and we want to make you aware of the relevance that women have had in the sports world. (You may think that our teacher Helen is the most influential sportswoman).  Write or send us photos of the sportswomen you think that should appear on our WOMEN's WALL OF FAME In the meantime, watch this video about stereotypes related to women.
