After reading this part of the book, you should go to the final pages and complete the activities for these pages.

OUR LITTLE TRIBUTE TO MANDELA

For our Citizenship class today we have organised a little tribute to Mandela, just watching some videos with songs dedicated to him or knowing about Apartheid and Mandela's life. First of all, we have played hangman with the word "APARTHEID" and then we have explained what apartheid was. Then, we have listened to "Ordinary love" by U2. Then we have listened to President Zuma announcing Mandela's death   Then we have learned something about "Apartheid" in 90 seconds:    We watched some more images about this subject:  The way South Africans celebrate death is really different from the way we do it in Spain, you can watch it.    Finally, a poem in which is based INVICTUS  This was our work  page .

We shouldn't forget today that many women are suffering and even dying because of domestic abuse.  

MALALA YOUSAFZAI GETS EU's SAKHAROV HUMAN RIGHTS PRIZE

Just some days ago we learned about Malala. And now she has received in the EU Parliament in Strasbourg the Sakharov Human Rights Prize. You can read about it in the BBC link . And watch the video in the Euronews:  

EDUCATION IN THE WORLD

We were watching last week several videos showing contrast in education in different countries. First of all, we watched a video about education in Finland, which is considered the best education system in the world. It is from the NBC, an American TV channel: After it, students could see the contrast with Ghana, where Charlotte is one of the few girls who study in her place. And then we focused on Malala. Our student had to know how brave she was and how hard is life for girls in Pakistan or Afghanistan . And this is the document students had to fill, just click here if you want to download it.

THE MONKS' SONG

Today we could learn about activities monks should make in a monastery with a funny song from Horrible Histories , a program on BBC. You can visit the page to watch more "Horrible Histories". And with these lyrics , you can sing like a Monk. Maybe you can also answer these questions: a) What is a "vow of silence"? b) What order can you currently find in the Monastery of Silos (Burgos)? c) What is the Gregorian Chant? d) Do you know a place in Spain where this kind of chant is still sung? e) What does monks illuminate?
